"Here’s a throwback of me. 10+ years apart.
Picture on the left, at my biggest weight phase. Not just that, I had the most confidence than I’ve ever had till date. I had zero body image issues. I was blissfully in love with all of me. When I walked into a room, I owned it. I have people on this app that have known me throughout that phase and they’ll agree with me, no bs. I ate whatever gave me satisfaction, no limits.
Here’s the thing, I CHOSE TO GAIN ALL THAT WEIGHT.
After high school I was bony, tall with very mediocre curves. I admired Ini Edo, an actress (for my non African friends), she’s beautiful and curvy. Not chubby at all. Just very curvaceous. I consciously started eating more thinking that’ll make me look like her 🤣🤣🤣 at a point, I superseded my goal but I had accumulated too many unhealthy eating practices, I couldn’t stop.
Not that I wanted to anyway.
My moment of truth came when I ventured into the acting industry. A great friend of mine back then in the industry told me that unfortunately, even though I was pretty, I was bound to get “auntie roles”. Which was 100% true. That’s when I first started losing weight. Around 2010-2011.
Weightloss and I have come a long way. I started misinformed, desperate, I did every diet ever. Yes I did lose all the weight. Scroll for a picture of my thinnest self. But even then, at my thinnest, I was still having an unhealthy approach to eating. Thankfully, I wasn’t sick or unhealthy, but my habits surely were. I had body dysmorphia. If you look at the collage of me at my thinnest, you’ll see a very thin girl, back then I saw a fat girl. I always complained about how big my stomach was! Meanwhile be the judge 👀 that wasn’t my best look either!
Even though I had moved from a bigger look to a slimmer look, I wasn’t better. It was just switching from one type of unhealthy to another type of unhealthy.
Now I’m here. Picture with the Afro was taken a week ago. I’m at a better place. For the first time since I started weightloss, being skinny isn’t my goal anymore. I need my booty, my thighs, I need and love how curvy I am now.
I just need to fix unhealthy habits. That’s all."
